Plus, and maybe this is only me, by that point I would rather use my advisers for research. And if I really need a few thousand more personal troops, which I rarely do except in a massive revolt, I can always just buy mercs. But here's the thing, it's equal PLUS I have four more counties making money as well, so I'm much better off. As for money, the extra from the castles with the steward and having fully upgraded cities with harsh taxes works out to something like equal - I know this has been looked at before but don't recall the exact result of the research. I end up mostly using vassal levies most of the time by the time I can build out all my province slots.
Once you're big, it's just such a small improvement overall.
